| Hawaii's "Cosmo" girls |
Aloha! I have two newsworthy tidbits:
1. "SOS Aloha" is now on Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads.
2. I am creating a slide show for the SOS Military Mixer at the RT Booklovers' Convention.
I seek photos from readers and authors of any family and friends who served in the military:
- any time period
- any length of service (a veteran served one day up to 20 years)
- anywhere in the world.
Please forward your photos to sos.aloha@yahoo.com
And now I return you to our regularly scheduled program ....
Spring Break is upon us ... time to head for the beach! No doubt you packed Cosmo into your beach bag. You'll be treated to the Red Hot Read with Jeanne Adams' DEADLY LITTLE SECRETS. Jeanne is a member of my home chapter,WASHINGTON ROMANCE WRITERS.
Kim: You wrote in your bio,
Being part of the Ad(d)ams Family, as you can imagine, Halloween is my favorite holiday
For our reading audience, I don't think we are related. I was born Kim Adams ... you married into the name. But Ad(d)ams does lend itself to romantic suspense. What inspired you to write this genre?
Jeanne: Well, Kim, you may be related to my hubby though! Grins. I did indeed marry into the name. And having a bent for the darker side of crime was probably fostered by dating several cops when I was single, then dating and marrying a funeral director - yes, a funeral director, and no, we didn't live over the funeral home! However, I've always loved Halloween, and the spooky stuff, mysteries, thrillers and things that go boom. (Or that which goes bump in the night!)
Kim: Living in the DC are is both romantic and suspenseful. What resources have you called upon in the name of research?
Jeanne: Oh, a lot! The best is the Library of Congress, of course. Allll that lovely data, right there at your fingertips, so to speak. There's also the National Archives, and the various memorials. If I'm ever at a loss for a story idea, I just go wander through the memorials, or go to Arlington Cemetery. There's a story down every row, there. I've also spoken to a lot of officials, from Pentagon employees, to Treasury employees, to the gals and guys who drive the Metro Trains. One of the lovely things about being a working writer is that you have the best excuse ever to ask people questions - weird questions at that - and they hardly blink at it.
Kim: Congrats on Cosmo's Red Hot Read. Let's pretend the editors want you to be a cover girl - how would you dress? What would be the front cover blurb?
Jeanne: Oh, my! A cover girl! That would be something. I'd have to do a little toning up before the photo shoot...fer shur. Grins. I'd probably wear black - it's slimming! - or red, since I look good in those colors and they show up well on covers. I'm not fit enough for some of the shots they take, even with photoshop, but I'd have one heck of a lot of fun! And the cut to "there" shirt or dress won't work, not after two kids, unless I can suddenly be transferred into Heidi Klum's body. (My dream!) However, a sharp suit, a gorgeous dress...I'd be good with that. Grins. As to the front cover blurb...hmmmm...let's see.....Okay, how 'bout this: "Writers Write Sexy, but ARE They Sexy?" That's enough of a lead-in to get somone to open the magazine, right?
So, SOSers, how would YOU answer that question? Would you go for a cover shot? And what would you wear? What tag like for you, or for me, would you suggest?
I'll pick a random winner from today's blog to win a copy of the Cosmo Magazine, a copy of DEADLY LITTLE SECRETSs, Godiva chocolates, and a coffee card from Starbucks. Thanks for playing with me today!
Jeanne is a contributing member of the Romance Bandits. Their cyber parties are legendary - the virtual Cabana Boys serve delicious Margaritas! I leave you with Jeanne's sensuous covers ....

I think I would like to do a Victorian Woman cover shot and my tag line -- now this is when a woman was a woman. LOL
ReplyDeleteWell, I might go for a photo shoot. I've done some free-lance modeling for a friend and they, who design clothes and sell them online, were very pleased with the photoes. And I'm not too worried about toning as I looked pretty descent and work out, hehe.
ReplyDeletePastels always look good on me, so I would probably go for bright colors, hehe.
Oooh, new books, mags, chocolate and coffee? Bring it on!!
Hey Jeanne,
ReplyDeleteI would try it. I think I look best in black(it's slimming.) I think maybe an A line dress or a Grecian style dress with some killer heels.
I don't think I would do it. I hate being the center of attention and I hate taking pictures.
ReplyDeleteNo cover shot for me! I'm too old to be the center of attention on a magazine cover.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could do it either. I'm too shy and too self consious. Maybe if my body was covered up or if it was a head shot! I do have big brown cow eyes which I think are my best feature. Have no clue what the tag line would say though! Great post today! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'd go for a Cosmo cover shoot. But it would be kind of fun to get all dressed up and having tons of glamourous photos taken.
ReplyDeleteA cover shoot would be so much fun! I would definitely go for it. Wear something real pretty--like :-)
ReplyDeleteIf you look though any of the photo of me you NEVER get a front shot I am always turning away have something in front of me Duck yeah No Cover for me UNLESS I am in full Victorian Masked Ball Costume that would be cool....
ReplyDeleteCaption The Fancy Ball.
Love the Interview ADORE the hot covers.
Have a good one Ann/alba
OOoooh, Danielle, I like it! :> It would make a heck of a cover, and the dresses of the day....ohh-la-la!
ReplyDeleteHey Tiona! How cool that you've done some modeling! I love it! And yeah, new books are always welcome, right?
ReplyDeleteHey Jane! I love black - and yes it IS slimming! So are killer heels for that matter. Something about really awesome shoes can make any outfit work, and make your legs look fabulous. Grins.
ReplyDeleteHey Danielle G! It is sometimes hard to be the focus of attention, isn't it? Especially if you're not feeling your best. But, sometimes it can be fun too. :>
ReplyDeleteAw, c'mon, Estella! You're never too old to be a cover model. Grins. Seriously, though, I'm thinking I might be in the territory of "Let's not go there", but airbrushing can do wonders, I hear!
ReplyDeleteHi Johanna! Big brown eyes make the guys melt, or so they say. Mine are a muddy green, so I don't have that blessing. Lucky you! Heehee. Mine keep me from getting pinched on St. Pat's day though, I'm always wearing green. Grins.
ReplyDeleteMariee, I'm with you. The glam-up part would be total fun, wouldn't it? Not so sure I want my face plastered on a national mag, on newstands everywhere (unless I can get the services of a Jillian Michaels for six months beforehand!) Grins. Still, the clothes, the shoes, the hair, makeup...yep, that would be fun.
ReplyDeleteHey Chelsea B! You're game for it! Yeah! What color's best on you?
ReplyDeleteHey Ann/Alba! I love your thistle. My family is Scots - Ferguson - and I'm all about the thistles. Grins.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking this idea of Victorian cover shoot. WOuldn't that be cool if one of the major national mags went retro, and picked up a victorian thing for a month. What a world changer. Grins. The return of the corset, for sure!
I would love to be a cover girl! But getting in front of a camera and looking glamorous is so much harder said than done.
ReplyDeleteStephanie
Hey Jeanne! Hey Kim!
ReplyDeleteI brought a couple of the cabana boys with me from the Bandita Lair. I can't lug the industrial blender of margaritas all alone! ;-)
I think a red power suit would look GREAT on you, Duchesse! And of course, killer red heels are a MUST! As for me, unless I can somehow erase 20 years off my face & body, I'm afraid a cover shot of me is a NO GO!
HUGS!
AC
Hey, two of my fave people in one spot. What fun! Hiya Kim! Hiya Jeanne! Jeanne, huge congratulations on getting picked as a Red Hot Read for Cosmo. I'm not surprised - I think your books are fabulous. And hopefully this will introduce your wonderful stories to a whole swag of new readers. Huzzah! I agree wtih you about DC being inspirational. I've really enjoyed my couple of visits there. We'll have to go exploring again next time I come. I still haven't got to Arlington and I'd love to see it. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Library of Congress. Well, of course I love this wonderful tribute to the book!
ReplyDeleteHey Stephanie! You are so right about it being harder work than it looks. Grins. They'd have to do LOT of work to make me "cover girl ready" Grins.
ReplyDeleteHey, it's AC!! Thanks for bringing the blender (and the guys!) over for a party. Grins. Everyone, pull up a glass and some salt. Grins.
ReplyDeleteAc, as to the red power suit, I'm all over that. And wouldn't black la boutin heels with that scarlet sole be stunning? Of course, I couldn't WALK in them, but I could stand for a really nice picture. Grins.
Hiya right back, Anna! The Library of Congress is so stunning. Have you been on one of your trips? You and I haven't made it there together yet. I do a lot of research there for genealogy. It's just mind-blowing how much is stored there. So totally cool.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nice words about Cosmo. I'm having such fun with it.
Jeanne, I had a lovely couple of hours there with Bandita Christine and Keira Soleore back in 2009. Stunning building and a marvellous giftshop (it's all about the giftshops, snork!). Would love to go back! I'll have to come for longer next time and not when we're running around trying to get ready to go away on a conference.
ReplyDeleteJeanne, I think you'd make a fab Cosmo cover model! That smile would sell copies like hotcakes :-) Add a pair of killer heels and a snappy suit that screams dark and deadly *g* and you've got a winner.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited about your Red Hot Cosmo read -that is fabulous. And what a way to share your great story with more readers!!!
No cover shot for me... Unless they can do wonders with make up and clothing. Though I wouldn't mind if they did try to goth me out! LOL!
ReplyDeleteRaonaid (at) gmail (dot) com
I don't think I'll go for a cover shoot because I would feel so self-conscious while doing it. But if they were to say give me a make-over first, then I'll consider it...
ReplyDeleteI think I would be too intimidated to be a covergirl...there is so much pressure to look "perfec" for the cover of a magazine like Cosmo!
ReplyDeleteHey Anna! you said: I'll have to come for longer next time and not when we're running around trying to get ready to go away on a conference.
ReplyDeleteFor you, dear, the door is always open! And going to the LOC is never a hardship. Grins.
Tawny said: That smile would sell copies like hotcakes :-) Add a pair of killer heels and a snappy suit that screams dark and deadly *g* and you've got a winner.
ReplyDeleteAwww. *Blushblushblush* Thanks Tawny! You'd have to help me with the killer heels. I don't buy 'em much anymore. No one to see them at my home office. Grins.
Hi Raonaid! You said: Though I wouldn't mind if they did try to goth me out! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThat would be cool, wouldn't it? A total Goth "do-up" would make a great cover shot. Kinda like the Victorian deal.... hmmmm...
Winnie said: But if they were to say give me a make-over first, then I'll consider it...
ReplyDeleteBut of COURSE, Winnie? What's a cover shot without a makeover? Grins. What color do you look best in?
Hi Jessica! You're right about the pressure, or so I hear. And if the camera adds ten pounds, I'm screwed. Snork! Hey, I just LOST ten pounds, don't put it back ON me! HAHAHAH! Then again, they do the "perfecting" in the editing suite, with airbrushing and all that.
ReplyDeleteI would do it and laugh the whole time. Probably white dress shirt and slimming black pants with ankle boots, topped off with chunky necklace! I do get to keep the outfit. Its the same outfit I picture myself wearing when I lose this forever last 10 pounds. LOL JodiT
ReplyDeleteHi Jodi! I love that you would laugh your way through it. I think I would too. It would be a giggle fest, wouldn't it? And you DO get to keep the outfits, sometimes. I had a friend who did this series of dog food commercials for pedigree, and she got to keep the clothes, PLUS she got paid!
ReplyDeleteI would agree to do it only if given the airbrushing and Photoshop treatment...LOL
ReplyDeleteStephanie
grr. The computer's cookies picked up Izzy's name instead of mine! The above post should be STEPHANIE not Izzy :)
ReplyDeleteStephanie (again)
Heehee! Had to LOL on the Izzy/Stephanie bit. And yes, I'd only agree if I could do the "touch-up" treatment! Hahahah!
ReplyDeleteOr, like I said, spend six months with Jillian Michaels before the photo shoot! hahah!
Hi, Kim, lovely site you have here!
ReplyDeleteJeanne, I can so see you in the LBD, which is exactly what I'd wear, trying to hide all those pooches I have LOL.
Great interview, ladies!
Hey Jo! Isn't this a great site? Kim's done a great job over here. (Yeah, KIM!!!)
ReplyDeleteAnd yep, a suit's a great "pooch-hider" - I have them too - and it can make you look svelte and in charge. I like both of those options! hahah!
lol @Stephanie...well I think I would be able to be a Covergirl if I wore the right clothes and flattering makeup (not to mention touch-upping..). I always thought heels could make a girl confident. And it's true, but when you're on a cover, no one never notices your heels! lol. I would probably wear a pretty dress too!
ReplyDeletewoots..all the banditas are here. it's going to be fun :) And i'm sorry i'm late :)
ReplyDeleteYes, i would go for a cover shot, Wearing Black or Maroon (oh i love these colors!)
Hey Jeanne and Kim -
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! While you, my friend, would look fabulous on the cover of Cosmo - they'd have to cover the magazines with plain brown paper if I was featured. Not because the magazine cover would be too racy, but because it would be considered a public nuisance! (grin)
But if they did major photo shopping - or had a stand-in take my place, I'd be in a pink corset, of course. The tag line would say...Not your mother's historical. (We're talking story - not the actual author - haha!)
Hello to "the real Izzy!"! Had to LOl about not noticing your heels if you're on the cover. That's for sure. The dress usually does the trick. I wish I had the kind of eyes - slanted, light against dark skin, dark - that made people take notice. That seems to be a model's stock in trade, since they're usually so skinny you can't say it's a rockin' body. Grins. What color dress fo you, Izzy?
ReplyDeleteHey! It's Mariska! Good to "see" you here, girlfriend! And black or maroon....love those colors too! Thanks for popping in.
ReplyDeleteDonna said: I'd be in a pink corset, of course. The tag line would say...Not your mother's historical. (We're talking story - not the actual author - haha!)
ReplyDeleteHeehee! That would be great, and do NOT count yourself out of the cover model stock, m'dearie! You look fabulous and you can rock a corset. Grins. (And you wear stylin' hats too!)
I couldnt do it. Well unless of course I was cover model perfect looking in a amazing dress. But since thats not going to happen, it wont be me.
ReplyDeleteHi Jeanne, I dont think I could do it!! Too much pressure. I love looking through the beautiful pictures though. they're always so flawless!
ReplyDeleteHi Emily and Donna S! Thanks for stopping in! I have to say that amazing dresses and airbrushing would convince me to do it...but Emily, they doo look flawlessly intimidatins dont they?
ReplyDeleteI sent you a picture of my hubby from 1991 when he was with the 5th Eng. in Iraq.
ReplyDeleteI would hate to be on the cover of a mag or in a photo shoot. I'm way over weight!
How about posing with a bare chested hottie like Paul Marron or Jed Hill? Then I can just stand behind them or something and no one would look at me at all. ;)
ReplyDeleteLil Miss Molly and Sheree, that's a great idea...cover model decoys...yeah, I like it!
ReplyDelete
