Continuing my spotlight on St. Martin's Press .... as my visit to Ohio comes to a close, it is fitting that I giveaway a book set in Ohio. According to my mother-in-law, Ohio has a great number of Amish communities than other states. Enter Linda Castillo and her Amish Crime Thriller Series. From her bio,
Linda Castillo is the New York Times bestselling author of the Kate Burkholder novels, including Sworn to Silence, Pray for Silence and Breaking Silence, crime thrillers set in Amish country. She is the recipient of awards including the Daphne du Maurier Award of Excellence, the Holt Medallion and a nomination for the RITA. Besides writing, Castillo’s other passion is horses, particularly her Appaloosa, George. She lives in Texas with her husband.
SWORN TO SILENCE introduced readers to Kate Burkholder:
In the sleepy rural town of Painters Mill, Ohio, the Amish and the "English" residents have lived side by side for two centuries. But sixteen years ago, a series of brutal murders shattered the peaceful farming community. In the aftermath of the violence, the town was left a sense of fragility, a loss of innocence. Kate Burkholder, a young Amish girl, survived the terror of the Slaughterhouse Kill but came away from its brutality with a realization that she no longer belonged with the Amish.

Now, a wealth of experience later, Kate has been asked to return to Painters Mill as Chief of Police. Her Amish roots and big city law enforcement background make her the perfect candidate. She’s certain she’s come to terms with her past—until the first body is discovered in a snowy field. Kate vows to stop the killer before he strikes again. But to do so, she must betray both her family and her Amish past—and expose a dark secret that could destroy her.

| Harrison Ford in Witness |

There is an Amish community just south of my home territory. They have large grain farms.
ReplyDeleteHave never seen any of their work for sale.
Ah, yes, I did drool over Harrison Ford in WITNESS. I haven't visited any communities. There is a small Amish store near us and I try to get there at least every two months and give them some of my business. They have the best prices! And some of the yummiest food!
ReplyDeleteI've never visited an Amish Community or bought any of their work but I sure have drooled over Harrison Ford in Witness! lol

I answer "yes" to all three of your questions. :) One of my favorite places in Ohio is Zoar, which was settled by Germans seeking religious freedom pre1800's. It's in the heart of Amish country. And I remember drooling over Harrison Ford when Witness came out. I think I was in college then. Did I just age myself? :D
ReplyDeleteI love handmade jewelry. Usually it's one of a kind and it's extra special for me because someone has put their time and talent into making it. I love vintage earrings and rings made with genuine gemstones and gold. I just imagine the history behind it and wonder who wore and admire this exact piece many years ago.
ReplyDeleteI havent visited any communties but i have bought stuff from them. My dad is a huge jam fiend! lol Were always getting him homemade jam from them. :) We also bought one of there heaters. Works great!
ReplyDeleteI haven't visited or seen an Amish Community. I have been reading the odd related story lately. Fascinating!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to visit an Amish Community one day.
ReplyDeleteHi, Linda. Both your books are on my nightstand. We toured Amish country in Pennsylvania on a trip once, and I sort of felt sorry for people being 'on display' simply for living the lives they'd chosen. This was after seeing Witness, so we had a reference point (albeit it colored by Hollywood). And of course we bought souvenirs--including wine from Intercourse.

Oh, yes to Harrison Ford (in anything). I've loved all his movies. Yes, I have visited a few places. PA has a large Amish community. I have an uncle that travels 4 to 5 hours one way just to buy their wonderful hanging baskets.

Alba must live near me because I lived in the area of St. Jacobs for many years. The market is fabulous. It is a treasure in anyone's life to go to it.
ReplyDeleteI have this book and I am looking forward to reading her other novels.
I have never visited an Amish community, but would love to do so someday. And I loved Witness.
