Aloha to Joanne Fluke and LAKE EDEN COOKBOOK

I am a fan of Bravo TV's TOP CHEF.  Its new season kicks off on October 9.  I watch it for fun as I have little culinary skills.   Still, I enjoy a good story that includes delicious desserts ala Joanne Fluke's Hannah Swensen Mysteries.   Her mystery books include delicious recipes so it is a natural progression for Joanne   Joanne to release the LAKE EDEN COOKBOOK:

Lake Eden Cookbook contains ALL of Hannah's published recipes from Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder to Carrot Cake Murder, plus a generous sprinkling of new never-before-published recipes. It will be out just in time for holiday baking and gift-giving.

Joanne also offers recipes on her website at this link.   Mmmm ... I'm hungry for Cheeseburger Cookies!   Today I am giving away a print copy of LAKE EDEN COOKBOOK to one randomly selected commenter.  To enter the giveaway,

1.  Leave a comment about your favorite thing to make from a family recipe .... or, if you are culinary challenged like me, your favorite thing to eat from a family recipe.

I love NY style cheese cake and I do have a fabulous recipe for it!

2.  This giveaway is open to all readers.

3.  Comments are open through Saturday, October 1, 10 pm in Hawaii.  I'll post the winners on Sunday, October 2.

Mahalo,

Kim in Hawaii

I'll leave the baking to Liliha Bakery at this link.  It is a local favorite that has been featured on Hawaii Five O - Danno loved the coco puffs (above) while Chin Ho enjoyed malasadas (below).

  1. My Mother makes a Port Wine Trifle that is to die for. I usually put in a request when I am announcing an impending visit. My Mother spoils us still.

  3. I love to cook and I make a few things that everybody loves but I think my tacos are the best thing that has been handed down from my mom. I make them differently than most people. I take hamburger meat and put it in a corn tortilla and then fry the whole thing in oil. You get a crispy tortilla and the meat gets done at the same time and you can fill the shell with all the fixings like my homemade salsa.

  4. I love Joanne Fluke books and love reading her recipes though I've never been brave enough to try one.....lol...I have a couple of favorite recipes I make at home that basically started with a recipe from a cookbook which I've adapted, like my buttermilk brownies which started as a buttermilk chocolate cake but which I tweaked into brownies and then my chocolate chip cookies made with crisco instead of butter in which I use ground pecans instead of walnuts...getting hungry just thinking of them! Thanks for the contest!

  5. I love to bake!! Have only just started to really cook in the last few years and find that I really enjoy it. I can remember in high school I had one teacher that so long as I kept him in chocolate chip cookies and turned in a good report I always got a A in his class. Never really knew what got me that A the cookies or the reports!! Although he never gave me back my reports, said he wanted to keep them to show other classes how a report should be done!

  6. I wish I had learned all my grandmother's recipes. The only receipe I use to make was homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs but I haven't done that in a while. Some of my favorites were her homemade bread, pizza, eggplant and stuffed artichokes.

  7. I was culinary challanged and decided that my kids were getting bigger and needed to learn. I went out and got a few cookbooks and then my mom and grandma gave me some. I just started following everything that a receipe told me and now I can actually cook and is really good(most of the time). Some have not turned out so good and have had sandwiches. I still call my mom constantly and ask her questions. My mom is a great cook and follow a lot of her advice. Would love to win this book, so please choose me for the giveaway.

  8. I like to make a layered Death by Chocolate dessert. It has layers of chocolate cake, chocolate pudding, cool whip, and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. You can use any candy or chocolate chips, but I prefer the peanut butter cups. It is reall yummy if you like chocolate.

  9. There is a simple chocolate chip/brown sugar cookie, called Congo Bars, that has to be present at every family holiday. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mardi Gras, Easter—you name, Congo Bars have to make an appearance. Mom baked them for years, and then I picked up the tradition to carry on with my own family.

The Lake Eden Cookbook sounds interesting—might have to add it to my collection of 100+ cookbooks.

  13. My husband and I made Greek Christmas Cookies (Kourambiedes) from a recipe he dutifully translated from his mother's cookbook. Absolutely wonderful, albeit ours were the size of bread loaves, not cookies.

  15. I am an expert at preparing...frozen meals! I am slowly at this stage of life learning to prepare some dishes but still prone to be distracted by a book and forget to pay attention to the timer!

  16. I have a great recipe for an Autumn salad with lettice, grapes, apple, walnuts and a mustard dressing. My mother has been making it for years and it's definitely a family fav. The recipe comes from an "ordinairy" cookbook, it's not a creation from her own hand. But that doesn't matter to me as she gives her twist to it each and every time she makes it.

  18. There are a couple of things that my family loves - shrimp muffins, pasta salad, baked spaghetti, snickerdoodles, and peanut butter pie. My daughter is the baker in the family and she's a big Joanne Fluke fan. I think this cookbook is definitely a good Christmas gift for her. Boy, there are sure some great sounding recipes here!!
