2012 is Year of the Black Water Dragon. From Chinese astrology,
Dragon is a legendary animal and it is symbol of emperor in China. Since the Dragon is coated with mysterious color, Chinese consider that the dragon is unpredictable, untouchable and people cannot see its head and tail at the same time. Therefore, we can might see something unexpected happening in 2012.
Something unexpected certainly happens to Gin Blanco from Jennifer Estep's BY A THREAD:
When killing people is your job, there’s no such thing as a vacation.
Then again, how often does an assassin live long enough to enjoy her retirement? In this line of work, you either get lucky or you get dead. And since I destroyed my nemesis Mab Monroe a few weeks ago, all of Ashland’s lowlifes are gunning to make a name for themselves by taking out the lethal Spider—me, Gin Blanco. So I’m leaving behind my beloved barbecue joint and heading south with my baby sister, Bria, to cool my heels in a swanky beach town. Call it a weekend of fun in the sun. But when a powerful vampire with deadly elemental magic threatens an old friend of Bria’s, it looks like I’ll have to dig my silverstone knives out of my suitcase after all. Complicating matters further is the reappearance of Detective Donovan Caine, my old lover. But Donovan is the least of my problems. Because this time, the danger is hot on my trail, and not even my elemental Ice and Stone magic may be enough to save me from getting buried in the sand—permanently.
BY A THREAD is Jennifer's sixth book in her Elemental Assassin Series. Let's see if six is Gin's lucky number. Again from Chinese astrology,
I suspect that Gin has a sixth sense to protect herself. Hopefully she can enjoy her weekend of fun in the sun! Elf reviewed BY A THREAD for me at this link. I am giving away a print copy of BY A THREAD to one randomly selected commenter. To enter the giveaway,
1. Leave a comment about what you would do for "fun in the sun" - swim? surf? scuba? sunbathe?
I love Hawaii's warm weather but the beach is last on my list - I prefer touring historic sights, hiking the coast lines, and snapping photos along the way!
2. This giveaway is open to all readers.
3. Comments are open through Saturday, March 3, 10 pm in Hawaii. I'll post the winner on Sunday, March 4.
Mahalo,
Kim in Hawaii

I love to sun bath and read when I'm at the beach and occasionally take a dip in the ocean.
ReplyDeleteI love to wonder the beach and walk in the waves and look for treasures.
ReplyDeletei dont really like sunlight ;(
ReplyDeleteFun in the sun! I would climb a mountain to my cabin and sit on the front porch with my computer and a glass of ice tea. Unless my husband were there... then I'd sit and talk, enjoying the company and the chance to sit and watch the trees. There would be birds chirping, too.
ReplyDeleteHi, everyone! Thanks for commenting on the post. Those sound like fun, relaxing ideas to me.
ReplyDeleteI would totally get myself into the water! Of course my younger kids would love some sand and shell time but my older kids totally rock the waves. I love a laying out with a good book and letting the time fly by. Thanks for a great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love to swim... There's nothing like a cool swim in the hot weather...
ReplyDeleteLeave a comment about what you would do for "fun in the sun" - swim? surf? scuba? sunbathe? I would do all of it, except I have never surfed. I think I would need some instruction, but I'd love to try it :-)
ReplyDeleteIf my legs allowed me to anymore I'd swim or sit in the shade and read.
ReplyDeleteI love the series by the way!
Can I tag along with you, Kim, to tour historical sites in Hawaii? That sounds like great fun.
ReplyDeleteI love the Gin Blanco series and this book tops my TBR list. Thanks for an interesting column.
I don't go out in the sun too often because I burn easily. But I do like seeing the ocean on a nice cool sunny day.
ReplyDeleteI would take a walk on the beach and then sit under a big umbrella and read.
ReplyDeleteI definately would enjoy playing in the sun with my friends then enjoying the beautiful sunset! I love sunshine and the ideas are limitless :)
ReplyDeleteI love the sun but in small doses. I can't read in the bright sunlight so usually look for shade! I don't get to the beach very often but I enjoy wading in the surf when I do!
ReplyDeleteI love reading on the beach and taking long walks and collecting sea shells.

Wade in the water, then read under the protection of an umbrella. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a water person, but I would love to take a walk on the beach and perhaps sit under an umbrella to read for awhile. That would only last so long and then I would like to take in the sites.
ReplyDeleteHi, again, everyone! I just wanted to say thanks for all the nice words about the Elemental Assassin series. I appreciate them.

ReplyDeleteI like to sit on the beach, under my umbrella, and read a book. It is very relaxing.
ReplyDeleteI always wanted to learn how to scuba dive! So if I ever get the opportunity for "fun in the sun", that is where you will find me.
ReplyDeleteI would sunbathe and lounge on the beach with my magazines. It would be a nice way to relax and enjoy my vacation time. I might have a mojito or other drink with me too!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun read. I have Venom and really enjoyed it. I love to snorkel, but don't really like the beach.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to learn how to scuba dive, and Hawaii would be the perfect place to try it out.
