Hawaii is a natural choice to celebrate all things Irish - think of Hawaii as Ireland of the Pacific:
- Hawaii and Ireland are islands.
- Hawaii and Ireland are green from rainstorms coming off the Pacific and Atlantic, respectively.
- Hawaii and Ireland have been influenced by British exploration, politics, and religion.
- Hawaii and Ireland are famous for their dances in skirts.
- Both mythologies feature "dwarfs" - leprechauns in Ireland and menehune in Hawaii.
- The rainbow may lead to a golden treasure in Ireland, but it leads to golden sands in Hawaii.
- Many Irish immigrants contributed to Hawaii's economy as an independent kingdom, new republic, US territory and finally a US state. Today, an Irish cop keeps Hawaii safe - McGarrett! He is portrayed by O'Loughlin - you can't get any more "Gaelic" than that!
In honor of St. Patrick's Day, I am giving away a book choice from my convention stash to one randomly selected commenter. To enter the giveaway,
1. Leave a comment about St. Patrick's Day - do you celebrate it? Eat green goodies? Dance a jig?
2. This giveaway is open to all readers.
3. Comments are open through Saturday, March 24, 10 pm in Hawaii. I'll post the winner on Saturday, March 25.

Happy St. Patrick's Day. I steer clear of the parade route because it's so crowded. I will be having some corned beef and cabbage this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI try to wear green but that is about it. My husband looks for the corned beef and cabbage when he goes out. I do not like it.
ReplyDeleteHappy St. Patrick's Day! I don't believe I have a green top but I do have St. Paddy's Day socks! I'm going to my friend's house for corn beef and cabbage.
ReplyDeleteHappy St P day.
ReplyDeletehe only green I will be making is the icing to go on the Muffins I will make for my Niece & nephew to be Party this evening.
Have a wonderful day.

We celebrate St paddy's day by making Irish stew at our restaurant, and then pistachio dream sq for dessert. We decorate with 4 leaf clovers it's pretty popular
ReplyDeleteThis morning I started off with zucchini and scrambled eggs mixed together, which gives them a green hue, which is healthy for you and 100% natural!
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, I learned how to dance a jig (along with a few other steps) many, many moons ago. It was a required class in Sophmore HS Gym class! Good grief! But haven't jigged in many years now.
ReplyDeleteGot the corned beef and cabbage, along with a few other veggies, in the crock pot! YUMMY!!!! That's about it for me. I can't even find a decent green shirt to wear today. Need to shop!
Kim, just love your Irish connections today and how you managed to work O'Loughlin in again *snicker* :>)
I'm making corned beef and cabbage rolls today. I was going to color the mashed potatoes green but a friend on fb said it would be better to add some diced green onions to them and I agree. I think I'll make a pound cake with some green stripes or dots in it for dessert too.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was working, I used to give my staff green carnations for St. Patrick's Day. I'll be alone today, so no plans, not even wearing green.
ReplyDeleteHappy St. Patrick's Day. we dont celebrate this event
ReplyDeleteHappy St. Patrick's Day! Sometimes we have corned beef and cabbage, but this we aren't. We've occasionally gone to the St. Patrick's Day parade but not this year. It's raining here today, but I'm sure the parade-goers will still have a great time.
ReplyDeleteI don't celebrate St. Patrick's Day but I am going to a birthday party tonight and I'm sure there will be quite a few people wearing green!
ReplyDeleteThanks for a fun giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI used to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the bar crawls that started at 9 am and lasted until everyone's on the floor :)
But I got that out of my system by 25 and now I sit back and laugh at everyone's future hangovers. I do wear green but that's about the furthest I go anymore :)
Although I don't have any Irish in me (that I know of) they do say everyone is Irish today. My husband is 1/8th Irish lol. We help out and will be going to our American Legion for a St. Patrick's Day dinner/dance and maybe some green beer. My husband is out picking up the cake now.

I always try to eat corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's Day. It is one of my favorite meals. I should have it more than once a year.

We don't formally celebrate it but any celebrations I take advantage of by spending time with my family. I do feel lucky everytime I do, plus I have on a green sweater today. Happy St. Patrick's Day.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post. Nice to see a juxtaposition of Hawaii and Ireland - and I just thought they were both islands - LOL.
ReplyDeleteI'm not doing anything for St. Patrick's Day because I am "working". Oh well.
Thanks for the giveaway and being part of R@R's hop.

I am wearing green & my shamrock pin. Last night I made corned beef reubens for dinner. I might have a beer today...but it won't be green. It will be amber.
ReplyDeleteErin Go Bragh!
No Irish celebration here.
ReplyDeleteHi KIm!
ReplyDeleteWelcome home from your vacation with you family at Big Island of Hawaii.
My family just finished having a dinner of Corned Beef, cabbage and potatoes. Since my husband is Italian I must admit it's not one of his favorite dinners but since my maiden name is Ryon every year I've made it a tradition to make one of MY favorite meals! It just wouldn't be St. Patrick's Day without a taste of the emerald isle!
I must admit that I remind him it's only once a year and every week he gets a homemade "Italian" meal that I make!
Happy St. Patrick's Day! I made sure the whole family was wearing green t-shirts today. For lunch we had reuben sandwiches, which is as close to corned beef and cabbage this year, I'm afraid. That's about it (hubby is Scottish and my family is German and English).

Staying off roads. Alcohol related deaths rise, according to news reports, from 1/3 to 37% on St. Pat's day.
ReplyDeleteWe don't celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
ReplyDeleteWe always make green pancakes. Such a disturbing colour really for food that is normally a neutral kind of colour.
ReplyDeleteSt. Patrick's day is my favorite holiday and I love celebrating it every year. I wear green, read romances set in Ireland and eat good irish food.

ReplyDeleteI wear green
ReplyDeletemilind.uppal@gmail.com
About the only celebrating I do is wearing green. I sometimes use a few decorations with shamrocks. This year, I just wore green and spent the day with my 11 year old nephew while he watched basketball, I read.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't really do anything since my family was coming over the day after.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! Blog Hopping! I love these hops. What a great way to discover new authors/blogs and visit with old friends.
ReplyDeleteI wear green and drink Shamrock shakes until I can't stand it. LOL
Thanks for being part of the hop and for the chance to win such a fantastic prize! <^_^>
