Romance at Random is hosting the DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATION HOP! It commemorates Queen Elizabeth's 60th anniversary of ascending to the throne .... and coincides with Ruthie Knox's new book, ABOUT LAST NIGHT:
Cath Talarico knows a mistake when she makes it, and God knows she’s made her share. So many, in fact, that this Chicago girl knows London is her last, best shot at starting over. But bad habits are hard to break, and soon Cath finds herself back where she has vowed never to go . . . in the bed of a man who is all kinds of wrong: too rich, too classy, too uptight for a free-spirited troublemaker like her.
Nev Chamberlain feels trapped and miserable in his family’s banking empire. But beneath his pinstripes is an artist and bohemian struggling to break free and lose control. Mary Catherine—even her name turns him on—with her tattoos, her secrets, and her gamine, sex-starved body, unleashes all kinds of fantasies.
When blue blood mixes with bad blood, can a couple that is definitely wrong for each other ever be perfectly right? And with a little luck and a lot of love, can they make last night last a lifetime?

I was curious about the "diamond jubilee". From Wikipedia,
A Diamond Jubilee is a celebration held to mark a 75th anniversary, but only the 60th anniversary in the case of a monarch (e.g. length of time a monarch has reigned). Traditionally, the diamond jubilee or anniversary of a person was also on the 75th anniversary. This changed with the diamond jubilee of the British Queen Victoria's reign. There was considerable national unrest when Queen Victoria largely withdrew from public life after her husband's death in 1861. It was decided to bring the diamond jubilee forward to the 60th anniversary in 1897. The diamond jubilee has been held on the 60th anniversary ever since.
That Queen Victoria is a trend setter! Check out these facts about her from this link:
Queen Victoria was only 18 when she came to the throne!
She was born on the 24th May 1819.
She died on 22nd January 1901, at the age of 81, after reigning for 63 years.
She had 9 children, 40 grandchildren, and 37 great grandchildren.
She married her first cousin, Prince Albert (of German descent).
She wore a white wedding dress and set the world-wide trend of white wedding dresses.
Her first language was German but she also spoke English, French and Hindi.
Most of their children married into Europe's Royal Family.
Queen Elizabeth II is her great-great-granddaughter. She also married a Prince - Prince Phillip of Greece. But he has German blood through his mother. Not surprising, Prince Phillip is a great-great-grandson of Queen Victoria. I think I have overloaded you with Royal Trivia! It's wonderful that you featured both Victoria and Elizabeth II -- both had/have wonderful love affairs with their husbands.
ReplyDeleteI love how devoted Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip are to each other and how they have stayed together through everything that the Royal Family has gone through in the past decade.
I've always enjoyed reading about the English monarchs. What most intrigues me is that the three longest rulers are all women...the two you mention here today, Victoria and Elizabeth II, as well as Elizabeth I. Go ladies!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I wished I lived in England just for all the history and to be able to visit the sites that I read in my historical romances. Congrats Queen Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteI've wondered whether V & A's marriage was a true love story or just another fairy tale.
ReplyDeleteThere is one thing that I have always found intriging about Queen Elizabeth and that is her guts to rule a entire country go go go Queen!
ReplyDeleteAlmost everything about them intrigues me. I love reading stories about them.
ReplyDeleteI would enjoy hearing it from the horses' mouth so to say lol. Truly I would like to hear what they have to say as opposed to what is written in the history books - the behind the scenes.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in learning all the jewels and art work they have in their possession.
ReplyDeleteI agree with catslady. There is so much info out there about them, but what is/was their private lives actually like. Are/Were they really happy? We just know about the things that are public knowledge.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, I didn't know the diamond jubilee was a real thing. I just thought it was made up for her 60th celebration, little did I know it has roots in history. I love watching or reading about the royal family, maybe partly because we don't have Kings/Queens/princes/princesses here to watch.
ReplyDeleteI will have to tell my husband that when we have been married for 60 years we will celebrate with a diamond jubilee =) hehehe
I do enjoy watching all the ceremonies
ReplyDeleteI think both queens are fascinating, both with such a long reign, in a job that is traditionally a man's. I love stories set in Victorian times, it was a very interesting era and Queen Victoria is an intriguing woman. Queen Elizabeth II has had her share of troubles, in a time that monarchs are just about obsolete, and I admire her.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see where they visit and what they do for the public.
ReplyDeleteI never really knew anything about Diamond Jubilees. So all of this information is interesting to me.

The British Royal family is fascinating. Queen Victoria was quite formidable. I hope Queen Elizabeth II reigns for many more years yet.
ReplyDeleteI don't know really much about the DJ - but love to see what Elizabeth wears - I wonder if sometimes she wishes she could dress not so stuffy. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI did not realize Elizabeth I had 9 children. To rule a country and have 9 kids is really amazing but I am sure she had nannies for each one so she only saw them maybe 1 or 2 times a day or week? I do admire Elizabeth II for being able to rule her country and handle family problems and staying calm and cool to the public. She really is an awesome Lady.

I have been to several of the royal palaces before. I am fascinated by the royal family. I believe Queen Elizabeth truly feels responsible for her people. I love that she was a mechanic during the war. It makes her so much for likeable.

This is all interesting. I have never heard of any of this before. Thanks for sharing. I love the fun trivia facts!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the facts Kim. But it weirds me out. Both Prince Phillip and Queen Elizabeth II are GG grands of Victoria - eewww!
ReplyDeleteThere were some interesting facts that I didn't know. I wonder about Queen Elizabeth's purses. What does she keep in them?
ReplyDeletethey both have been some strong women. and amazing pretty
ReplyDeletetamibates68@hotmail.com
Both are some strong women indeed and have seen and done amazing things. Very interesting facts Kim. Thanks for sharing. But the marrying of first cousins going way back is such a turn off to me. :)I wonder if any of Victoria's children were affected mentally or emotionally because of their relation.
