Aloha to Roxanne St. Claire and BAREFOOT IN THE SAND

Summer is where the girls go barefoot and their hearts are just as free as their toes. - Unknown.

May's warmer weather brings bare feet!  Roxanne St. Claire kicks off her shoes with her new Barefoot Bay Series. Roxanne "bares" all in her bio from her website (at this link):

First of all, call me Rocki. Everyone does. Evidently, when my mother brought me home from the hospital I seemed too scrawny and small to pull off “Roxanne” (she’d read Cyrano de Bergerac while pregnant or I would have been Judy) so they called me Rocki.

Aloha, Rocki!

I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, the youngest of five (overachievers, every one), and fell in love with words and stories the summer I read Gone With The Wind. That year, for my twelfth birthday, my parents gave me a typewriter (with italic font – it was the coolest thing) and from that day on, I’ve had my fingers on a keyboard, pounding out love stories for fun.

If you still have that typewriter, it might be valuable as an antique!

I got some fun gigs, and even met Tom Hanks when I did a guest appearance on Bosom Buddies.

I loved that show!

That second manuscript sold to Simon & Schuster’s Pocket Books and was released in 2003 as Tropical Getaway.

Rocki has come full circle. She wrote 8 books for Silhouette Desire, 8 in the Bullet Catcher Series, 3 in the Guardian Angelinos Series, and several anthologies, including SEAL OF MY DREAMS. Now Rocki's back to another tropical getaway with BAREFOOT IN THE SAND:
When all you hold dear is taken away . . .

When a hurricane roars through Lacey Armstrong's home on the coast of Barefoot Bay, she decides all that remains in the rubble is opportunity. A new hotel is just what Mimosa Key needs, and Lacey and her teenage daughter are due for a fresh start. And nothing, especially not a hot, younger architect, is going to distract Lacey from finally making her dreams a reality.

A second chance is the only thing you have left.

Love has already cost Clay Walker everything. And if he's going to have any chance of picking up the pieces of his life, he needs the job as Lacey Armstrong's architect. What's not in the plans is falling for the headstrong beauty. Her vision of the future is more appealing than anything he could have ever drafted for himself. Will Clay's designs on Lacey's heart be more than she can handle, or will she trust him to build something that will last forever?

I grew up in Coral Gables - a suburb of Miami. We had "hurricane" awnings that we dropped over the windows during a hurricane warning. I recall one such occasion when I was fourteen. My parents asked me to stay overnight with our elderly neighbor. Because that's what we do in a community.

I could relate to the characters in BAREFOOT IN THE SAND as they rebuilt their lives after the hurricane. The "community" resonated with me - Roxanne captured the charm, the quirks, and the hope.  BAREFOOT IN THE SAND is the must read beach book for this summer!   I look forward to more stories from Mimosa Key. Let's pop the champagne cork, add the orange juice, and celebrate with Roxanne!

  2. Aloha, Kim, and thank you so much for this wonderful feature! So honored to share my story and my new series with your readers. I didn't know you grew up in Coral Gables!!

Great question, by the way. I like to write barefoot...I can't stand shoes on my feet when my hands are on the keyboard.

I'll be happy to pop in all day to answer any questions that show up in the comments section, so readers (and you!) can feel free to fire away! THANK YOU!

    xoxo

  4. Love, Love, Love Roxi's Bullet Catchers. Yum, yum, yum!!

Oooh! Walking around the beach in the barefoot is a must - Only when it is the sand close to the water. The dry sand, especially on a super sunny day is too hot.

Do love walking around in grass. The feel of the blades tickling my toes

  6. I do everything possible barefoot.

Recently, Pittsburgh, PA is being revealed as the home town of some of my favorite authors: Cleo Coyle -- http://www.mysteryloverskitchen.com/2012/04/mysteries-of-pittsburgh-how-to-make-bbq.html
and Jeff Siger (in the comments he discusses Isaly's):

  7. My fave thing to do barefoot? Hmmmm I go barefoot all the time indoors, but I don't think anything beats the feel of warm sand on the toes.

I got a copy of Barefoot in the Sand at RT, loved it! Please do NOT enter me in the contest Kim!

  8. We (me and my family) walk around inside our house barefooted all year long! It feels actually great because it relaxes our feet after a long period of time of having to wear shoes. :D But I specially like sitting barefoot while watching t.v. A double dose of relaxation.

  9. So nice to hear about other Pittsburghers - we're a friendly lot.
I love to be barefoot at the beach although I don't get there very often. Grass is also a favorite. I rarely do it in the house anymore because we mostly have wooden floors or tile and it's cold lol.

  10. I like walking in grass, especially in spring when the grass is starting to come up. I love to sit outside in a nice comfortable lawn chair and put my feet in the grass and read a good book. I love the natural light, the cool breeze, and just quite. I live in the country, so nice and peaceful.
Big fan of Roxanne's Guardina Angelino series and would love to win and read this book. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  11. Great post! I love going barefoot all the time when it's warm enough. The one thing I "have" to do barefoot no matter the season is sewing, it gives me better control on the foot pedal. My second favorite would be walking in the grass.
I can't wait to read this book, as someone who has totally lost two homes to hurricanes in their life and had two more with severe damage (my relatives say I'm a hurricane magnet!) I can totally relate to any hurricane story!

  12. What a fun post! Rocki, I was on a writerspace chat that you were on (not sure when)which lead me to read my first book of yours a couple of weeks ago and I loved it! I loved your style of writing, the pacing and especially the characters. I'm going to add more of your books to my TBR pile.

I go barefoot as much as possible!

Kim, thanks for sharing your blogs with us. They are like happy rays of sunshine.

  13. When I lived near the beach going barefoot in the sand was one of my favorite things to do. But not on a hot day, oh no...ouch.

  14. Me again...the book I just read was The Kiss Me I'm Irish anthology.

I'm so looking forward to this new book of yours. I moved to FL about 6 months after Katrina hit. We drove out along the 10 and stopped in Biloxi and Gulf Port, Miss. It's unreal the extent of the damage that was still there. You could see right through the Hard Rock Hotel and many other buildings. It looked very similar to the bombed out buildings you see on the news in war torn countries.
I'm now in AZ, but that image has never left me, nor the stories of the spirit of the people as they recover their communities.

    Thanks again,
    Shannon

  17. When I was a child, my favorite barefoot activity was walking in the rain. As an adult, it's getting a pedicure.

Thanks for visiting, Rocki. I look forward to reading Barefoot.

  18. I am going to be completely honest and say I HATE getting my feet dirty! I'm a little OCD about it, actually. I'm a socks and house shoes gal ;-) But if I lived close to the beach, I could definitely see myself making an exception :-)

  19. In nice weather I always go barefoot around the house or on my back porch.

  20. My favorite thing to do barefoot is to get a pedicure. :D Walking barefoot in the sun is a lot of fun, although I haven't been to the beach since I moved to Central Florida. I'm looking forward to reading Barefoot in the Sand, it sounds like a fantastic story.

  21. I'm generally not much for being barefoot. There are fire ants in the grass. Cat food on the floor in the house. And people touching my feet?? NO pedicures for me! However, like you, I do live near the beach and as soon as my feet hit that sand, the shoes come off. I prefer cool sand in the Fall, just at the water's edge.

  22. I love getting a pedicure!!

  23. I love walking in the sand at the edges where the waves come in.

  24. I love to wiggle my toes after a long day of work on my feet, even better to have them soaked in a water massage.

  28. I do love to walk along the beach in bare feet. I tend to be barefoot around the house all the time, when the weather permits.

  29. The only time I go bare foot is walking on the beach. Something about walking in the sand with the waves washing across my feet and the sanding shifting as I walk feels so good. I would love to go to the beach this summer if at all possible.
Thanks for the opportunity to enter giveaway.

I used to live in Coral Gables a looong time ago in my early teens. :)What I always remember first were those gentle warm breezes that would blow through my hair in early evening.Crazy what sticks in our heads.I have to finish the Guardian Angelinos. Love it.My favorite ting to do barefoot is walk on the beach just as the waves are breaking and pulling back. Love the feeling of my toes sinking into the wet sand. :)

  31. Kim -

Thanks for the memories that the picture of the manual typewriter brought flooding back into my mind! When I was in High School even though I was taking all the college prep couses I decided to take typewriting classes and it ended up being the most "profitable" course I took!

We learned to type on a manual typewriter with no markings on the keys! After I graduated from High School and told my parents I wanted to go the the University of Arizona they said if I didn't go to the school they had "picked" I would have to pay for it myself! I had worked summers as a secretary for the summers between that typewriting course and my grandation so I decided to go out on my own and ended up moving to Tucson. getting a job as a secretary and going to Nigh School (not the norm at the time).

After I moved to Floida and got a great job with Procter & Gamble, met and married my husband and we ended up moving to Rhode Isalnd. That one course has helped us out more than anything else in the 42 years we've been married. When other jobs weren't available I could always mange to get one as a secretary (now called being an Administrative Assistant).

I still miss my old time manual typewriter - the one that only needed a new ribbon and not a check-up that cost a fortune! It never told me a word was spelled wrong or had spell-check that DID spell a word wrong! Oh the other hand I still want my old black rotary dial phone back as well - you know the one that still works when you lose electricity!

The one thing I always loved to do was to walk barefoot in the back yard. How times have changed! The health officials now say that's a big NO here because we have deer ticks - in fact several years we've even had a family of deer residing in our back yard - by the way they love our hosta so there's no way they'll be going away anytime soon.

Now my barefoot escapades are confined to the house!

  33. When I am home I am always in my bare feet. I grew up on a farm and I would always run around without shoes. Of course there were a few unfortunate incidents. I accidentally stepped in a fresh cow patty once. :-/ LOL

  38. I like wading my barefeet in the water on really hot days. Lake water is especially cool and keeps the heat at bay.
