Social Media - Seeking Readers' Feedback

Aloha!  Social media connects me to Romance Readers.  It bridges the gap between Hawaii and the world.  But it can also be a time suck for readers, authors, and bloggers.  What is the best balance between reading, blogging, and connecting?

I want to write an article for RWA's magazine, ROMANCE WRITERS REPORT.  It published articles from authors about social media ... but I have a different perspective as a blogger.  I seek your input - as a reader - to social media!

1.  What social media do you use to learn more about Romanceland - websites, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, or other?

2.  Whose social media do you use to learn more about Romanceland - authors?  publishers?  individual bloggers?  group bloggers?   Other?  Feel free to name your top five, other than mine, of course!

3.  Do you think blog tours are effective for authors to reach readers?  Do you follow a favorite author to all the stops on the blog tour?  Do you prefer author interviews, guest posts, or some other content on blog tours?

4.  What is the best way for a newly published author to reach you as a reader?

5.  What is the best way for a long published author to reach you as a reader, other than writing great books?

6.  How much time do you spend on social media in Romanceland each day?  How much time do you spend reading each day?

7.  Anything else you would like to contribute?

Sing, sing a song, sing out loud about your love of books!

If you would like to be heard, please send your input to sos.aloha@yahoo.com.  All input is confidential and will only be used in generic reference in any article I may write.

Meanwhile, let's giveaway a book choice from my convention stash!  To enter the giveaway,

1.  Leave a comment about your plans for the weekend - decorating for Halloween?  making special treats? reading an engaging book?   Or something else?

2.  This giveaway is open to all readers.

3.  Comments are open through Saturday, November 3, 10 pm in Hawaii.  I'll post the winner on Sunday, November 4.

Mahalo,

Kim in Hawaii

  2. We're expecting some big storms on the east coast so I'll be working on getting my garage cleaned out so I can get my car into it - also getting my patio set inside so they won't become missiles. So as long as the power lines etc stay up I'll be on the internet. If it goes out I'll be doing a lot of reading.

I discovered the internet world of books about two years ago. I like individuals blogs because I think they give their honest opinion of books. Authors & publishers sites are great for finding out about the books and which are in series. I do use Facebook & Twitter, but so much gets put out there that it's hir or miss if I actually see posts unless I go to the individual pages.

  3. I am reading Eloisa James' The Ugly Duchess. It's like reading two books though in a way since there's a big break in the storyline in the middle.

Also probably going to do some Halloween stuff with my daughter this week.

  4. Our temperature is going to drop like 40 degrees - yikes. We're not sure if we're just getting wind and rain or snow. There is a Halloween party at our American Legion but we're not sure if we're going yet. We've already carved our pumpkins. It doesn't look good for the kiddies :(

  5. We're bracing for Sandy, but hopefully it'll miss us without much rain and wind. We've stocked up on food and water.

  6. My little Girls went to a birthday/costume party tonight. One is a cowgirl the other Strawberry Shortcake. How fun! Don't have any special plans. Might bake halloween cookies. I'm waiting for Maya Rodales new book, Seducing Mr. Knightly to come out next tuesday. Yeah!

  10. Not decorating for/celebrating Halloween myself. I have to do a bunch of housework, but also plan on watching a movie with my mom. I borrowed Love's Everlasting Courage from the library and it promises to be good so ...

  16. There is a real pumpkin sitting on my porch beside my cement cat. I hang a plastic pumpkin on a birdfeeder hook with a battery candle inside. I spin some web for my big plastic spider, too. I will have leg vein surgery that morning & poor hubby has candy basket duty! (have not told him as yet)

  18. My big plans for the weekend are to put up a few Halloween decorations tomorrow and today it was to vote (we have early voting here in Florida). I stood in line at the library for 3 hours, and it was unusually cold and windy due to Hurricane Sandy, but I got it done and now I don't have to worry about that task.

  19. Bleh... recovering from working an overnight shift Saturday night. But... yay! This is my last one after 6 wks of doing this to cover a maternity leave out of the hospital I'm based at. The overtime was nice but I'm glad to get my weekends back so that I can read! Spending all day today, Sunday, doing laundry after taking a little nap. But I'm sooo looking forward to tonight after Walking Dead so I can go back to bed! :)
