The Hawaiian phrase of the day is
Hau`oli Lā Hānau
It is Happy Birthday.
Today is my youngest son's birthday. David was born near Tampa while my husband was working in Japan. Alas, my husband is now in Korea. David was born three days after the Baltimore Ravens won Super Bowl XXXV in Tampa Stadium. This weekend, the Ravens face off against the 49ers for Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans. Hence, we're rooting for the Ravens. Who are rooting for this weekend? If you are not a football fan, what kind of cake would you make for David?

One randomly selected commenter wins a book choice from my convention stash. This giveaway is open to all readers. Comments are open through Saturday, February 2, 10 pm in Hawaii. I'll post the winner on Sunday, February 3.

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to David.
DeleteGo 49er's. Also have pie instead of cake , have the amazing pie from Ted's Bakery on the North Shore--Chocolate Haupia Pie. It is the best cream pie ever! Aloha!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to David!!
ReplyDeleteI'd make him a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.
Happy Birthday David!
ReplyDeleteI don't watch football but I would make him any flavor cake he wanted.
Happy Birthday David !!
ReplyDeletei'm gonna make him A dozen of Molten Chocolate Cake :)
Happy Birthday David!! How about a double chocolate fudge cke?
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday David, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be different and make Chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting.
Happy Birthday David! Happy day for his mama who suffered through labour.... :) I always remind my kids about labour and the pain I went through for them! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday David!!! That's my son's name too! Not sure who I'm rooting for but I think it will be an awesome game!!!
ReplyDeleteRavens! I'd also make a chocolate cake for your little guy!! Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI don't watch football either.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to David. I would make him a nice Victoria Sponge Cake, with a fresh cream and strawberries filling.
Happy Birthday to David.
ReplyDeleteGo Ravens!
Happy Birthday to David! I would make him a german chocolate cake. I am hoping the Ravens will win. I like Michael Orr.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to David!!!!! Best wishes and here's to many, many more! Ummm... triple chocolate :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, David. I really can't pick a team this year. I'm a Steeler fan and the Ravens beat us so we're not going to be there but the 49er's could tie us for the top winner in Superbowls. I think I'm going to concentrate on the comericals lol. How about a black forest cake!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, David! I'm a huge football fan. It's tough picking a team to root for as none of my favorite teams are there. I'll probably root for both teams, leaning more towards the Ravens because of Ray Lewis and Michael Orr. Then there's Colin Kaepernick - he's fun to watch. As far as cakes go .... I'm not a real cake lover, so it would probably be a chocolate bundt cake. IF I were creative, I'd make a layered cake with a jam filling in the shape of a football helmet. Have a great day, David!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your son! How about a football themed chocolate cake?
ReplyDeleteReally, who wants cake when they could have pie? I always have pumpkin pie for my birthday, but my son's girlfriend found a great recipe for pumpkin pie baked in a cupcake, so it's the best of both worlds. That's what I'd give to David, hope he likes them! :D
ReplyDeleteI'm not a football fan, so I didn't even know who will be playing till I read your blog! Even though I'm not a fan, I'd still make him a football cake, dark chocolate cake with milk chocolate frosting. Tell David happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday David. I guess I shall route for the Ravens.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a football fan, so I probably won't watch the Super Bowl. If I was, I would be routing for the Ravens. Happy, happy Birthday to David. I would make him whatever cake he would want.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday David! Great name, that is also my brothers name. We lived I SF for a while and now live in a suburb of the Bay Area. Needless to say we are 49er fans from way back. Cupcakes are the treat of choice in my house.
ReplyDeleteI do like the 49ers, but this year I'm rooting for the Ravens. Happy Birthday, David. I would choose a great big chocolate/chocolate cake for you.
ReplyDeleteHappy (belated) Birthday David! I'm no good at making fancy cakes & would probably make a chocolate cake. It's my favorite and I never met anyone who didn't like my chocolate cake :)
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to David! I'm no good at baking, but I'd buy him a nice one! Haha ;-)
ReplyDeleteNiners all the a way,
ReplyDeleteHave a great weeken
Kimh
Haven't watched football in awhile and so I'll cheer on both teams with a lean toward the Ravens for Ray Lewis.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday to your little man. I'd make a cake in the shape of a playing field with lots of chocolate and vanilla custard in the ,layers or whatever his favorite filling would be.
